Position: Special Education Teacher
Responsible To: Principal & Director of Special Services
For Whom/What Responsible: The overall development of the Individualized Education
Plan (IEP) or for all students they case manage and the
education program for students to which they are
assigned.
Qualifications: Missouri certification in one or a combination of the
following areas: Mild-moderate disabilities (includes LD,
BD/ED, MR and OHI certifcations) hearing impaired,
visually impaired or severe developmental disabilities.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board
may find appropriate and acceptable.
Primary Responsibilities: To provide specialized instruction and coordination of
special education services for individual students with
disabilities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serves as a case manager in the development and implementation of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities both in the regular education classroom and in separate special education classes or settings.
- Communicates with regular education teachers and principals regarding the educational needs and programs of students with disabilities.
- Collaborates with the school team in implementing effective specialized teaching strategies for students with disabilities.
- Maintains records regarding individual student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, services and accommodations provided, parent contacts, notices and other documentation as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations, the Special Services Director or the school principal.
- Participates in student eligibility evaluations and re-evaluations.
- Participates in the development of an annual budget request for instrutional materials needed to implement and support IEPs for students with disabilities.
- Initiates communication with parents of students with disabilities on a regular basis.
- Uses technology effectively to implement instruction and to manage documentation requirements.
- Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
- Complies with good safety practices.
- Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned.
Term of Employment: Nine and one half months. Salary and work year
to be established by the Board.
Evaluation: The evaluation is conducted by the building
principal and the special services coordinator
according to board policy and the Concordia R-II
adopted model of the performance based
evaluation.
