Position:

Elementary School Principal

Educational development of students

Essential Job Functions:

 

Educational development of each student

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
  • Keeps the superintendent informed of the school’s activities and problems.
  • Makes recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction.
  • Maintains active relationship with parents and students.
  • Budgets school time to provide efficient conduct of school instruction and management.
  • Leads in the development and monitoring of the instructional program.
  • Schedules classes to meet student needs.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the building level implementation of the district curriculum.
  • Supervises the guidance program to enhance student education and development
  • Serves as ex officio member of all committees in the school
  • Supervises all activities and programs that are an outgrowth of the school’s curriculum.
  • Plans and assists in the supervision and evaluation of the school’s extracurricular program.
  • Responds to written and oral requests for information.

Day to day operations of the building

  • Assists in the management and preparation of the school budget.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists and all other paper work required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
  • Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
  • Works with various members of the administration on district problems.
  • Assumes the responsibility of the implementation and the observance of all Board policies and regulations by staff and students.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students.
  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on progress and attendance of the students.
  • Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health of students.
  • Complies with good safety practices.
  • Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.

Staff Supervision:  Educational & Policy

  • Maintains membership in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and support staff of the building.
  • Assists in recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating the school’s professional and support staff.
  • Plans for the evaluation of performance for all staff members.
  • Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers.
  • Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
  • Leads in the development of the school’s mission and goals.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and human relation skills
  • Complies with good safety practices.
  • Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Participates in administration meetings, board meetings, and other appropriate meetings.

Maintenance of Building

  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
  • Supervises the daily use of the facility for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
  • Plans and supervises fire, storm, earthquake, intruder, and any other drill necessary in accordance with the district’s emergency preparedness program.
  • Provides for adequate inventories of school supplies, school property, and for the security and accountability for that property.
  • Other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned.

 

Term of Employment:

Eleven month employment

Renewal at the February board meeting.  

Compensation and Benefits determined annually by the Board of Education.

Evaluation:

The evaluation is conducted by the superintendent according to board policies and the Concordia R-II adopted model of the performance based evaluation.
